My DD is now in sophomore and since is very interested in doing for undergrad in BS in Biotechnology, I am researching different colleges. I went through URI website and found that they have BS in cell and molecular biology and with She can choose Biotechnology as her track.
I suggest talking a bit more about career plans first and what it takes to get there.
Does she want to just work as a lab tech? If so, a BS is fine. Although tech jobs tend not to have great pay or advancement opportunities.
However if she aspires to anything other than the lowest rungs of the biotech ladder then the union card is a PhD. Even then it is no sure thing. Unappreciated by many, there is a glut of PhDs in the country including hard science PhDs. This no doubt comes as a surprise, so spend a few minutes researching this on the web. Start with a search such as “phd glut life sciences”
Since employers have no trouble filling the existing supply of technical science jobs with PhD holders the opportunities with just a BS are limited.
