How is University of Washington for Computer science compated to UCI computer science??

Accepted University of Washington as a Pre enginneer major. If I get undecided /un declared major at UCI after the waiting llist… should I take the UCI ot UW ashington ?? I n both need to apply for computer science after a year or two .
.

Cost wise UCI better as i am resident… Not sure how hard to get in to computer science with the current competition of expecting out of state students by UC System…

Please provide suggestions. Thanks in adavance…

At UCI, to change in the CS major, you need at least a 2.0 GPA overall and in the prerequisite courses for the major:

Getting into the CS major at Washington is more competitive, with about a 40% admission rate, with most admits having GPAs in the 3.4-4.0 range:

Yes , UCI is better … Thanks,

Oh, it’s good to know that getting into CS at UW is easier than I thought - I always thought it was kind of sad that you had to apply for the CS major, but 40% acceptance rate isn’t too bad.

Anyway, both are great schools. UW is well-known for CS, but UCI is no slouch in that area either and is a good choice for a CA resident because of the price.

However, that is 40% of those who apply to the major after completing the prerequisite courses. They admit 200 per year. That means that 500 apply per year. But it looks like around 1,200 take the first two CSE courses, so (even after subtracting the small number of direct admit students from this number) some of them may be giving up on the CSE major before applying because their grades or GPA is too low (3.0 or whatever).

Note, however, CSE 142 and CSE 143 are open to all UW students (regardless of major or intended major), and one or both are required for ACMS, Informatics, HCDE and EE majors.

Thanks for the information… It is so helpful…
