Is an A- (low 90) a 4.0 or lower? I know different colleges might calculate it differently, but which is more common?
There is no common answer to this. I am told “most” HS’s use 90-100 as 4.0, but I don’t know that is true. I know U of Mich uses that scale (90-100).
if your HS doesn’t do a point scale, it can be hard to know where you stand GPA wise. If your school uses naviance you can see what the avg 00% score was accepted from your school, though.
Ok thanks! My school doesn’t use naviance and we only have a weighted gpa scale so I was wondering how I should calculate my unweighted gpa since a lot of places ask for it. @HRSMom
I think look at all your classes’ individual grades.
Generally 90-100 is an A.
80-89 is a B etc.
A counts for 4
B counts for 3
C counts for 2
You add them all up then divide by the total number of courses that you took.
You don’t get the extra points for an AP class. an AP A is 5 points weighted while it is 4 points unweighted.
@HRSMom @rdeng2614 @dadoftwingirls when finding unweighted gpa, should I include grades from beginning of senior year (obviously after I know them this fall) or just through junior year? Thanks
Yes, do both. Depends on what the school wants.
