How is USC for a gay student?

Hi there...

While I know USC has a strong gay/lesbian community, I was wondering how most of the other people react to them? Being gay and from a small town in the midwest, going to USC makes me confident that I'm ready to be open about my sexuality.

-Is the population at USC pretty liberal or conservative? UCLA seems much more liberal, but I didn't get accepted there! hehe.

-While I know I'll be able to meet other gay people, one of my fears is that gay guys will be the only guys interested in getting to know me. Right now, all my guy friends are straight (although I am not out here). Do the straight guys at USC seem pretty care-free about someone's sexuality? I'm excited to meet other gay people, but hope to not be locked in just that social group.

Thanks! Any advice or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated =).

My opinion is that it will not be an issue at all. Students at USC seem to be very accepting of differences of all kinds. (sent you a pm)

Here is an old thread on the subject-

Good luck!

I don’t think it will be a problem. From what i’ve seen USC is really a very open and accepting school, in fact I belive they have a rainbow dorm floor for GLBT students and supporters. The fact that you are also in L.A. adds to the diversity of the school in my opinion.

While the Greek system and USC as a whole is a fairly conservative school, you shouldn’t have a problem fitting in.

It’ LA. really it won’t be a problem. my roommate’s friends last year were mostly gay so I met alot of them and I think they didn’t have any hard time fitting in or something. My roommate was a theater major though so that might explain something haha (she was a straight girl)
