How is "valedictorian" defined at your school?

At my school you are val if you have all A’s throughout high school, and have taken atleast one AP class… so this year we had 8 vals. We don’t do sals…

In my school the person with the highest weighted gpa is val and the second highest is sal. At graduation val, sal, and class pres all give speeches. This year we had co-vals though because the val and sal’s gpas were very close and they were twins.

Usually one val. We use a weighted GPA that includes the 0.33 benefit of A+'s and the 0.33 deficit of A-'s. This way, it’s rare to see two people with the exact same GPA. A personal issue I have with this system is that it puts brilliant kids who want to pursue an unweighted class like Art, Ceramics, and Choir at a disadvantage.

We don’t have vals or sals. Sucks.

our senior class votes on valedictorian instead of it being the person with the highest GPA. generally it is someone that represents the class well or is a well rounded, average kid.

We had a valedictorian. Strangely enough, he was ranked #2. (Everyone thought he’d be #1, and he got a B at the last second–ouch!)

He got into Harvard to major in philosophy though :P

just laugh at it- valedictorian is no more than a label and from what you’ve said- it doesn’t seem like much recognition comes with the label anyway when there are so many.
