How is washington university biomed program?

Is this program getting accredited? What are employment prospects?

I think accreditation is only offered every however-many years... and the bme program at washu is still fairly new. But if you take the "professional" program, your degree will meet the requirements for accreditation. (What they've told us is that we'll be granfathered in, once the time comes for the school to receive accreditation-so its not something to really worry about. And I think that this all should be happening soon...)

As far as employment prospects... it's a little hard to find much through the engineering school's career services - there weren't many companies recruiting for bme's. That's not to say there aren't tons of job opportunities out there, and that washu grad's cant get them - it's just up to the students to do the research and contact companies. I'm sure that as the department grows over the next 4 years, and the name recognition goes up (had been a problem in the past), more companies will come to washu for recruiting. Many of the bme grads actually end up going on to graduate school (med, engineering, etc), so sometimes the staticstics aren't exactly a good representation.

Juliet, I hear good thing about the WUSTL. I understand WUSTL is taking Biomedical Enigneering very seriously. And if a school with so strong a Biology and Medcial program and with as much money as WUSTL decides to take Biomedical Engineering so seriously, they will make it happen.
