I know it was closed last year, but I was wondering if it’s a good hall for freshmen. I heard it has great location, but is mostly upperclassmen and not very social. How would you compare the dorm to Bursley, Mojo, Alice Lloyd?
Thanks in Advance!!!
West Quad is a pretty good dorm for freshman, and next year it’ll be fabulous (since it’ll be completely renovated). You can’t beat its location. I lived in Bursley my freshman year, and it’s definitely a social dorm. It’s up on North Campus (which is convenient if you’re in Engineering/SMTD/Stamps), so you’d have to deal with the buses if your classes are on Central Campus. I liked living on North because it felt very separate from my classes (like I was going home for the day). Alice Lloyd is hard to get into as a freshman, but it’s beautiful. Mojo is pretty social, and the location isn’t bad either!
Unless you’re going to be a part of one of the living/learning communities housed in west quad, your chances of getting in as a freshman are very, very, very slim. West quad is where they place the majority of the university’s athletes. So don’t get your hopes up too high.
It should be mentioned, though, that west quad won’t have its own dining hall after the renovation. This isn’t the end of the world because south quad is right across the street, but I still wouldn’t be thrilled having to always put on a winter coat every time I wanted to eat in a dining hall from November-March. Room and board is way too high to have to deal with that, in my opinion.
