How is your GPA calculated?

I know the points and all that stuff but which grades do they use?

Do they go by quarter, semester or final grade?

I know the points and each grade and etc. but I was wondering which grades they use for calculating it.

Thanks!

Edit: I'm talking about the final GPA that colleges will see on your transcript.

they be going by by final grade. But lets say that you are in your junior year, they be going by that quarter then semester then final grade…

At my school the grade you have at the end of the semester (including the final, if there is one) is what they use to calculate your GPA.

We get grades in %s. The school then finds the average of all the core class grades (english, math, sci, hist, foreign language) from 9th and 10th grade and averages that with grades from IB in 11th and 12th grade. If you get above a 90% you have a 3.7. If you get 100% you get 4.0.
It’s quite ridiculous, and it’s made worse by the fact that we have 65 students per grade and therefore don’t rank. So pretty much everyone from the school who worked at all has a 3.7.
It differs between schools though, so class rank is usually more important. Check with your guidance counselor.

At my school they use all of your semester averages to calculate GPA

They just average out the semester grades. 2.5 added to honors classes. 5 points to AP. So lame, we don’t even use the 4.0 scale.

Grade < or = 96 GPA={6,5,4}-|96-grade|/8
Grade >96={6,5,4}
