I am, surprising, doing very well so far, though a couple classes have me a little worried (NOT like last semester with that horrid psych class though!).

Italian 4: It’s easy for the most part, but a lot of work. The teacher is a doll. I predict an A.

Italian Lit 2: LOTS of reading and lots of writing, but it’s doable. Not too hard because we go over every story in class. I predict an A, but I haven’t gotten back the first paper…it’s hard to come up with 3 pages worth of Italian when you are in a rush to get somewhere…but, I managed to pump out over 3 pages that made sense. :)

Syntax: This course is VERY challenging, but my teacher is amazing. She is so approachable and so positive. Even if you are wrong, she corrects you in a way that’s almost as if you’re not being corrected! She is one of the best I’ve ever had and I’ve been doing very well on homeworks. I have a test tomorrow and a research paper to do so we’ll see how things are at the end. I think I can get an A here if I can do well on the research paper. She helped me pick a topic and she’s excited about it so it should be fine.

Phonology: WOW. This course is a LOT harder than I thought it woudl be. Not a lot of work, but some of the concepts are difficult and quite technical like when I took Morphology (same teacher). I’ve done well on the last two homeworks and I just found out taht the mid term will be take-home, so maybe I’ll do okay. I hope to get an A, though a B or B+ may end up being the outcome.

French Poetry: Not a lot of work though we have to anylize a bunch of poems and their style, meter, etc. Not the most interesting course in the world, but the teacher is cool and it’s an upper level French course. I think I can pull off an A here.

So I feel good about this semester for the most part…I’m not freaking out like I was last semester. I don’t think I’ll be getting any Cs this time. I am glad I took 5 courses instead of 6 this time, only because my Syntax and Italian Lit courses suck the life out of me in terms of time commitment.

So what about y’all?

First off...I'm jealous! You can speak Italian!! I've always wanted to learn :-P

Anyways...
All of my classes are going really well. I'm taking a lot of music and humanities classes...which are classes/subjects that I adore. I love almost all of my professors...except...English. English is kicking me in my teeth and I thought I was a good writer :( That's the only thing that's putting a damper on my semester is that damn English class...it's frustrating to know this early in the semester that getting a B is going to be the highest possible grade I can get. :(

Oh, random question...are you a speech pathology major? (the phonology and syntax courses make me ask)

So far the semester is going pretty well. It's way too early for me to think about predicting grades but I don't think I've failed anything yet (had my first test in one of my classes today and I think that went ok, but you just never know)
I'm undeclared but I think I've finally decided to major in communication sciences and disorders (speech pathology). Which reminds me I need to call tomorrow for an appointment with my advisor about that.

I'm taking Survey of Communication Disorders (which is the class I just had a test in), and it's interesting, and I think going well. Will know more when we get the tests back though.
Also taking Soc stats which is going ok. Have my first test in there on Thursday, which should be interesting at 8 am. I think (I hope) it'll go well.
Intro to Psychology is going fairly well. Got an 88.5 on the first test (yes he seriously left the decimal point on there). We will have a lot of grades for that class though, and he drops the lowest test grade, so I'm not overly concerned, although, Friday's test should be a challenge, since it's on all the biological brain stuff.
My last class is my honors seminar: Medicine and Law. This class is not nearly as interesting as it sounds, and, quite frankly it is hell. 100 pages of reading on reserve in the library (one book for 20 students to share) is not uncommon, and you only get to take the reserve books out for two hours. My prof is a former lawyer, and runs her class like a courtroom. I honestly believe she still believes she's questioning defendants and feels she needs to skip around enough to confuse the heck out of us. It's an hour and twenty minutes twice a week, and right before lunch. Needless to say, it's the only class (surprisingly) that I absolutely dread going to

So overall the semester is going fairly well. I've got friends in all my classes, which is awesome. My built up lounge got broken down about 2 weeks after we got back to school which is wonderful. I now have a new room, with the roommate from the lounge that I really liked. There were 4 of us in the lounge, and only two of us in this room. I have my own space now: no bunkbeds, and all my furniture is in one area of the room. I also don't get woken up by a drunk stumbling into the room at 2 and 3 am EVERY morning, and don't have to put up with her drama as the boys in her life find out that she's serious about 8 at one time, and not just them (I couldn't make this stuff up if I tried)

I'm pooped and frustrated. At the beginning I really loved my classes, and I still do, but I got behind last week partly because I was sick and partly because my motivation is waning. Now I have so much to do to catch up that it stresses me out to think about it, so I try not to. Plus dorm life is starting to get to me also. I live on a floor of singles with a communal bathroom for each gender; someone threw up in one of the sinks and on (not in) one of the toilets. He didn't try to clean it up, so it got really crusty by the next morning. The whole bathroom stunk, and it really aggrevates me that he didn't try to clean it up. This (in my opinion) is the same guy who peed in the stairwell while drunk, and tried to poop in the hallway. He throws oranges down the hall and at the walls and doors. He and his group stomp chips into the carpet and scream obscenities, and our RA doesn't care. The person above the RA passes the buck too. Spring break can't come soon enough -- 23 days 22 hours and 40 minutes; there's still a lot that I really like about school, but I need a week away to recharge.

i'm a linguistics major.

my syntax "quiz" today was really hard....it took the whole class period and I am soooo unsure of how I did.

as for psring break......the first full week of march for me :) and it can't coem son enough either.

Semester has been a little busy.

Computers and their Impact on Society: Dumb Computer Science requirement. Not too bad. A bunch of in-class and out-of-class writing assignments as well as having to run one entire class period. I already did my presentation on Monday (50 minutes) and I think it went well despite the technical difficulties that were out of my control.

Programming Languages: Don't really like the professor because he kind of makes up his own material along with the book and seems to make it much more complicated than it needs to be. Plus his sample midterm has a few questions that have nothing to do with the material we covered.

Existentialism: Excellent class. We do a ton of reading and written responses for homework, but I like the material. Very exhilarating.

Contemporary Philosophy: Professor is extremely nice. Lots of reading, but we get take-home tests. Yesss.

Metaphysics: Good professor, but class itself is hard (as I expected). She kind of jumps around with the material (as Aristotle does) but the material in this class is sometimes pretty exhilarating for me as well.

As for my social life, been making a few new acquaintances in my classes and meeting random people in other places, but nothing spectacular. Still working on the whole social life thing I guess. Just been too busy really.

I have one thing to say about take-home tests, and it is directly from personal experience: THEY'RE F'N HARD!!!!!!

I know, but at least you have so much more time to complete it. Time has always been an issue for me when it comes to tests.
