how is tennis perceived on college campuses? i am going to be on a d1 women's tennis team next year and just wondering how it is perceived at your school compared to other sports.

The only sports that matter around here are football wrestling and basketball. We don’t care about our women’s varsity tennis because they suck compared to other D1 schools, even though they’re probably the best tennis players within a 30 mile radius.

But schools like cal, stanford, USC etc sound like they would appreciate their tennis teams a lot more, since they’re always really good, and top ranked teams.

actually not even wrestling is popular around here, even though our state colleges almost always get 1st or 2nd in the NCAA tournament year to year. All they get is 3 sentences on the local news

I have never heard anything about our women’s tennis team, but I’m sure we field one (we have so many sports). It might have been a bigger deal if not for the football culture. You shouldn’t worry about negative perceptions, I doubt anyone has something against tennis.

Edit: Google says we do have women’s tennis! Woo!
