<p>Is bringing a bicycle ridiculous?
How many acres does the campus sit on?
Do any current students feel overwhelmed by the size?</p>
<p>I visited last weekend.</p>
<p>I saw some kids with bikes, but not a lot, just a few here and there. The campus is HUGE and gorgeous, on first sight, but after just one day, i found it was super easy to get around! Also the students are always willing to show you the way if you get lost. Personally the only trouble I had was that some of the dorms were quite far from where actual classes were.</p>
<p>It is not huge. You can easily get around on foot. But if you bring a bike, you can go biking in Forest park, etc.</p>
<p>it's a fair sized campus, it'd definitely not be ridiculous to bring a bicycle. If you're on the S40 (in other words, if you're a freshman) you probably wouldn't need it, unless your schedule works out badly or you just don't like to walk, though.</p>
<p>I agree a bike would be useful at times, but not necessary on campus. It is not a small campus (169 acres), but it is mostly contiguous, such that no two things are too far apart for a nice hike. See: Washington</a> University Visitors Guide</p>

<p>You can walk from one end of the campus to the other in about 20 minutes at the most. It's a stunning campus and a beautiful walk.</p>

There's always the Metro if you want to get to the medical school. WashU gives free Metro passes to all students, and there's usually one every ~5 minutes.</p>
<p>There's also a bus which picks up from the S40 and drops off at main campus, the art school, and the 560 building (new applied music location). I've only used it to get to the 560 (even then only half of the time) but it can shorten the walking distance.</p>
<p>Lots of kids have bikes and there are awninged shelters for them at various spots around campus. There is also a student run bicycle rental company if you want to rent one for the year. I think the cost is around $125-$150 for the year.</p>
