I'm not a night owl, just wondering if I'll be kept up all night in college cuz of loud music, etc. I know I'll probably change my sleeping habits in college, but I'm just curious. Thanks!

During the week, I usually stay up till around 12 or so, and on weekends, 2 or 3. In college, who knows.

in college, your dorm will never sleep, except maybe during the day. seriously, people are up at 2 am taking showers, and that's just the week days. If you go to bed early and bitch at people to be quiet, you'll be dubbed a loser. Enjoy!

Hehe, yea I'll definetly have to change my sleep patterns. Either that or get a really good pair of ear plugs! I don't think It'll take that much getting used to, I guess I'll just have to sleep late instead of waking up around 8 or 9. :)

earphones work well, if you can sleep with quiet music on. that's what i did freshman year when i was a good person. by sophomore year my attitude toward the partiers was "if you can't beat'em, join'em." ;)

Yea I sleep with quiet music on now too! My parents did it when I was a baby and I never ditched the habit, its relaxing as you go to bed :)

Almost every weekend me and my roommate are up till 2 or 3 am. Near the end of the semester we settled on 2 am.

i'm usually up till about 2-3 on a week night, sometimes till 4-5 depending on how much work i have... and weekends till whenever i fall asleep.

i don't count the hours i stay up... i only count the hours that i sleep... sometimes 3 maybe 4 hours a day if im lucky

i'm very much a night person (it's nearly 8 am now and i haven't gone to bed yet). unfortunatly i have a series of 10 am courses i have to take for my major, so i go to bed around 3 or 4 am, get up 9 am for class, then take a nap after lunch.l

Do you guys sleep late because you want to or because y'all have so much work in college?

I don't know about other schools, but I am at an Ivy and there is no way you have to limit yourself to 3 hours of sleep during the week unless you are seriously unable to budget time during the day. 6 hours i can understand, but if you get 3 hours of sleep you have no one but yourself to blame.

Private_Joker, not really :-). I usually wake up at 7, out at 9, back at 3, do whatever I want until 9, HW from 9 till 12 some times. The rest just up having fun. Most of the work in college comes from readings.

I'm usually up until 1 or 2 during college...mostly 2 and later. With 8am classes everyday. Definately changed my starting time for next semester so I can get some shut eye.

private joker - i am up late partly because i want to, and partly because i have a lot of work. all of last week i was up on my computer from 5pm-5am doing work.. and with that i just barely got it all done. and believe me, that wasn't because i wanted to. that was me working straight through. I didn't even go to my job the one day. In that time i did a seven chapter project, designed 2 websites, wrote two 30 page tutorials, created a 16 page magazine from scratch (photos, articles, etc), made 6 color prints for photography, redesigned a cd, made animated advertisements to advertise for the cd, and created a little website to hold the advertisement and cd. That stuff takes time.... and has nothing to do with me procrastinating, as they were all final projects..

I stay up until I am tired, or finish hw, or want to go to sleep so I can get my 6-7 hours on a schoolnight or 8-9 on the weekend. So, usually midnight or so.

Wow, fendergirl. You're Superwoman! Seriously, that is a lot of work!

Something to remember is that not everyone in your dorm will start classes at the same time the next day. If you're chillin with people in the lounge, at 3am, and your class is at 8am, don't assume everyone else's class is either. They may have class at 10, 12pm, 3pm, or maybe they don't even have classes the next day.

Also, my hall got together the before school and decided on quiet hours. Our hall quiet hours are 12-8 on weekdays. I think 8 is right, but that really doesn't matter, as no one goes shouting around in the morning, more like drag yourself out of bed to go to class. On the weekend, quiet hours are 3am-12pm. And generally, if you ask, someone will turn their music down in the middle of the afternoon if you want to take a nap.

Having said that, I usually go to sleep around 2, but sometimes it's 3, 4, or 5 or 6. I prolly got like 6-7 hours a night, which is A LOT for me. In high school I ran on like 3-4 hours a night, sometimes for an entire week, as in, by Friday I'd have slept like 15 hours. I would go to sleep usually 3-4am, andg get up at 6:30. Now if I go to sleep at 4am, I can sleep till 9.

Also, you can go to 2 hours of class, and then come take a nap if you want. Hopefully you and your roommate have similar sleeping patterns, and that will be asked on your housing survey, but also, remember that it is your roommate's room too, and if s/he has to stay up all night writing a paper on his computer, s/he should be allowed to do it in the room. You will get used to going to sleep with typing on keyboards quickly if it's an issue.

I guess I should add that I do stay up late doing work, sometimes. When I have work, I do it late, as in, I don't usually start it till 10pm or later. There is no reason to be up late if you want to sleep, I could've been in bed by 10 everynight this semester if I wanted to be. My dorm thinks I don't sleep, as I'm up in the morning for class when they are, and up when they go to sleep at night, but I'm getting more sleep than HS, and doing great.

yeah.. and that's just the final projects part of my semester.. my entire semester was literally all projects.. i only had three "tests" total, and like two additional very short quizes... up till the end of october i was also working 30 hours a week at my jobs.. so it was pretty insane. But the first week of november I b ought myself a new car, so i guess the work was worth it :) now i'm just working 10/hr a week or so.. at least till spring :) I only took 12 credits next semester (4 courses).. it'll be a relief after taking 18 for the past few years.

So, so damn late! Next week I go back to second shift instead if graveyard shift so I will stay up until only 3:30 or 4 am
