How late in the spring do schools contact applicants for interviews?

My son has applied to 18 med schools. Was contacted in July to interview in Sept. at a very prestigious school and was wait listed. He has been rejected by 2 ivy’s. He’s in the 91st percentile for the new MCATS goes to a very prestigious liberal arts school in New England. Has a 3.8 GPA, has been an EMT since age 17 and the Chief of his campus’ EMS program for 2 years. He has also shadowed surgeons AND has done 2-3 years of Neuroscience research. He has also attended TedMed and did a poster presentation at the National Conference of Neurosurgery this year. His advisor has told him he thinks he will have choices…he is not a minority or foreign student. Parents and students - any info you can share with this nervous parent? He’s worked so hard and has all the right things and also got his applications in early summer of 2015. What’s the word out there?

A 91 percentile with a 3.8 gpa is a LizzyM score of about 71. This means your son needed to apply very broadly. How many non-prestigious schools did your son apply to?

In April, the admins at all schools will be able to see the full status of their applicants. If your son has not received any other offers by then the school he’s waitlisted at may consider this, so don’t lose all hope. Should things not work out, your son should start to consider how he will spend his gap year should he decide to be a re-app. Good luck

You can also check the school-specific threads over at SDN to see if any interview invitations are still being tendered.

Not exactly.

AMCAS traffic rules require all med schools to have accepted at least enough students to completely fill their entering class no later than March 15.

Invites are still going out.
