harisheena: Wow I mean your and guitarclassical’s posts just depressed the hell outta me. I’m a “big fish from a small pond”, as you put it, with <85 in 11th and 12th midterms… Wow.

@aniruddh do indians get considerable financial aid at Cornell Master’s? Did your sister apply for/get any? (Actually, my friend is presently at IIT Delhi BTech and he wants to go to Cornell/Stanford for Masters and hence I’m asking.)

@blackadder - I would say this again:

believe me!! if you are an ivy league (or other top ivy-league caliber schools) caliber student, you will get in even if you had scored 69 or you are from rural/village/government school/farmer’s son/watchman’s son (like Anshuman Panda frm Bankura village nd from a govt. school)…

Oh one more thing - this (69 stuff, etc.) can be controversial and I know you are now going to ask questions about it, but this is just an example. Don’t challenge now by REALLY getting 69… Understand wat i m trying to say… (i just copy pasted from my last post
)

how does one prove he’s an Ivy League caliber student if he does’nt have an excellent academic record or stellar EC’s???

@saxena - It might be research, Int’l Olympiads, etc. Something should be awing. Only stellar essays and recommendations can’t get you in.

rsaxena: Those are the 2 main parts of your app. =/

I don’t have much to offer you in terms of advice but the post quoted above made me LOL. :D

to be honest - lolololololollolo.

I dunno if my question was funny or no, but it certainly was the obvious question - given the context of the discussion…all about low scoring students gatecrashing into MIT and the like…:/

I suppose being optimistic is the best antidote to expected failure…

you are just seeing one of the aspects of their personalities… your mouth will tear apart if you know about their whole application… Just talk to any one of them personally, you will know…

@harisheena - heavens, it looks like you’ve taken offense in some way - * apology *

u r wrong… in no way i have taken offense…
and if you think i have taken offense - I would say
Lord Harisheena (kill pixie, she gave the title) forgives you my child

lolol :)

Oh well, if nothing works out, there’s always Georgia Tech.

Lmao you’re talking like getting into Tech is really simple.

Well, it is true to some extent that HYP only admit those with exceptional academic scorecards. And it is also true that they realize how harsh the marking system is in india. however, academics aren’t the only criterion for selection, right? SAT scores, ECAs, etc all weigh in too. So if you’re a little weak at academics, don’t be dissuaded from applying to HYP. go ahead, give it a shot - who knows? you might get the golden letter!

Also LMAO@AudreyH for “…it has prestige, it has better financial aid than places like columbia univeristy even”.
Really? you’re comparing midd to columbia aid-wise?? well, of course, midd gives more aid than columbia! even SUNYs probably give more aid to internationals, than columbia does. Heck, uchicago (a school with an extremely strict aid/schol policy toward intls) gives more aid than columbia.

@aniruddhc: I consider it a safety school. I’m that pretentious.

So are you like a board topper+olympiad medal winner or something?

I LOLed your calling GT a safety

Haha no, I just know five people who got in, and they were like below average and stuff. So I thought “maybe its really easy getting in”. I may be wrong, I don’t know.

That really isn’t true. Yes, they accept students with low SAT scores (1900-2000) but those students either have a good SAT Math score or are strong academically!

Define below average!!

collegeboard-is Columbia that stingy with aid?Heck,UChic’s got to be one of the stingiest.That’s bad,I really like Columbia.
