We all know that Berkeley has the most liberal atmosphere out of all the UC’s. How do the other UC’s compare?

California, in general, is more liberal than conservative. I think it's a fair statement to say that Berkeley's probably the most liberal of all of the UCs.

I think they're all very liberal.

Hm. Well I was wondering about going down the spectrum. Like, at one end it's Berkeley... and I heard supposedly UCI's the most conservative out of all of them? Not sure where I heard that. And then where do all the others fit in?

I dunno, UCI is in the southland... They are all liberal (as most universities are) but does anyone know the ranking from most liberal to conservative.

UCD is very liberal. We have a lot of hippie things going on and actually Whole Earth Festival's this week! I think UCD is the 3rd most liberal. UCSC must be 2nd!!! UCSD is on the conservative side, at least all my conservative friends go there!

If UCI is conservative, I haven't seen it. But maybe it is in comparison with the rest? Idunno. People might think it's conservative just cause it's in the OC but it really isn't, although the town of Irvine is known for being towards the conservative side of things.

Irvine is a town of nazis. Seriously, the city has rules like for evey 5 square footage of pavement, the city requires exactly one tree. It is a plastinated, overly suger coated surburbia with tract homes at every corner.

UCI, however, is really cool.

i think of ucb (and most of the other uc's) as being more in the center rather than liberal. though they're not the only programs, berkeley's popular for their business and engineering programs. somehow, future corporate workers/leaders don't strike me as being the tree hugging-save the whales type.

ucsc and ucd on the other hand...:)

When you say a UC is liberal or conservative, are you referring to the students, professors, administration policies, immediate neighborhood, etc. ?

UCI is in conservative OC, but does that automatically mean that the student body is also conservative?

UCB is considered liberal, but the truth be told, they are all over the map. That's why there are so many demonstrations there. Every possible political viewpoint is within the Berkeley city limits.

UCSD is in conservative San Diego County, but is physically located in ultra rich, yuppie La Jolla. What is the politicial viewpoint of its student body vs the UCSD administration?

California's central valley is a hotbed of conservatism. Does that automatically mean that UC Merced will be conservative?

At UCB, there has always been a bunch of non-student outsiders who lead the liberal protests. Most students don't really have time for all of that.

uc santa cruz is very liberal (look at all the recent demonstrations/drama)

berkeley is in a liberal neighborhood, and the student body is pretty liberal, but not as extreme as some people say they are. there is also a growing number of berkeley college republicans

i'm not sure about the rest. i'm going to uc santa barbara come fall and i see santa barbara as being pretty balanced. i've encountered various liberals, conservatives, and moderates.

I would assume most of the UCs are pretty liberal, since most colleges are generally. When people go to college they become more liberal (except for those christian schools). But Orange County is probably a bit more conservative since one of my friends got suspended from school (Irvine High) for putting "Vote for John Kerry!" on the school website.

It's really jacked what happened, somebody saw it on the site and decided to call up a conservative radio station for who knows what reason. The station basically told everyone listening to go visit the site and it became some fisasco. He probably could've gotten off with a slap on the wrist if it wasn't for those conservative (insert random curse word) whining about it.

There's a great truth to be learned from politics... people don't vote based on competence. That's how a certain actor/bodybuilder who had zero political experience became governor of a certain state I reside in. Everything's gone bad and the stuff he promised to fix has become worse. Same with our current president. I remember there was some headline that went something like, "Bush reelected. How can 51% of Americans be so stupid?" That was a good laugh.

That's kinda messed up when Radio stations meddle in like that... but it was the school's website and I would assume that really isn't appropriate...

At least in California if your Republican, your the underdog.

I think ucsc is much more liberal than Berkeley these days. We're compared to the way Berkeley was in the 60s and 70s.

UC Merced will be the most conservative... middle of nowhere redneckville :)
