What are the chances of successfully getting into it once enrollment opens on the 24th? I'm nervous because I really want this course (SOCI141) and it won't be offered for the rest of the academic year after this :(

Considering around 10% of a class USUALLY drop, it’s possible. I don’t know the actual chances, but it’s possible. Definitely have a backup class.

You should show up on the first class just in case, but for a big class like that, I wouldn’t count on it. There have been some classes I’ve taken where literally the entire lecture hall was crammed including the aisles and staircases on the first lecture.

****, in this case which of those students get first dibs off the wait list? Would I need to be one of the first people to enter the hall on the first day of class?

^It doesn’t matter who is first in the lecture hall and your professor can’t admit you into the class anyway. The students that get first dibs off the waitlist are the ones who signed up first. Xenosis was just saying that you should go to class in case you do get in so you don’t miss anything, but to not get your hopes up and that it may be hard to find a place to sit anyway. I do believe it is POSSIBLE but I wouldn’t be betting money on it. But like I said, find a backup class that you can take in case you don’t get into SOCI 141.
