Just got a letter. Time to celebrate or am I being an eager beaver?

My understanding is that a likely letter is a done deal on an offer of admission, unless, you do something really bad in the next month or so.

^Thanks, I needed a self-esteem boost after my other college rejections

ddlyarrow,

Congrats !! would you post your stats ?? thanks

99.9% likely unless you killed someone or failed a class or something. Basically, you’re in at Dartmouth.

what other ivy league schools send out likely letters?

I know H & Y send them, don’t know about the rest. If you check their forums, you’ll probably find out pretty quickly. :)

colombia sends them too, and penn sends them to athletes

H&P send them, mostly to athletes tho. Just read

I hope I get one or get in even, Dartmouth sent me a letter asking me to apply to their school. I hope that my effort didn’t go to waste.

^ that’s how I feel about the 11 other schools I applied to and also scholarships

stupid pres scholar thing, I wasted like 2 weeks of my life on it and I bet they’ll reject me =(

haha i got the presidential scholars thing too but didnt even bother doing the application…6 essays for something that has a 3% acceptance rate, out of a pool of already the countrys smartest kids…all not even for any money. dont get me wrong, it would be awesome to get to go to washington and meet obama and everything, but i just figured it wasnt worth the effort cuz i dont have much of a shot

most other top-notch colleges, ivies or otherwise, also send likelies but only to athletes no matter how qualified you are. originally I was confused by why they wouldn’t send likelies to uberqualified normal applicants as well but then someone else explained that they send likelies to athletes b/c athletes can get recruited by other colleges early on so these selective colleges want to recruit them early before they can commit to another college, while top non-athlete applicants will probably apply to the top colleges anyway and then commit to a college after they receive all their acceptance and won’t really be swayed by likelies.

and for your Dartmouth likely, you should feel happy… at least you’ve gotten into a very good college

Last year, HY, UPenn, and Columbia all sent LLs to non-athletes. HY sent very few of these (about 50 -100 each?). Colmbia seems to send a lot more and maybe even approaches Dartmouth’s number. In addition, the last wave of LLs from Dartmouth and Upenn last year seem to be for URMs.

ddlyarrow,

at least you tried. it’s better than giving up without even trying.

Is it true that girls are more likely to get likely letters than boys? Is Dartmouth’s applicant pool still skewed?
