How likely is it to get off the waitlist?

I was disappointed (and kinda surprised) to get wait listed at American. I’m really happy with the school I’m planning to commit to right now, but American is my dream school for International Relations, and if I get in, I’ll reconsider.

Can anyone say about when decisions will come out and how likely it is to get accepted off the waitlist?

Not that likely. Last year they did not take any wait listed students at all. If you need financial aid, the likelihood is even less.

My son and his girlfriend were accepted off the waiting list last year. He received a call the first week of May. He did get FA that matched our FAFSA stated need. Please be sure you call and email to let them know that you are still interested in attending. Good luck!

I am not saying you’re lying, harneysiris, but I will say your story is quite surprising. According to American University’s Common Data Set, for Fall 2011 enrollment, they offered places on the waiting list to over 2100 applicants. Two hundred eighty-seven of them accepted a place on the waiting list, and none of them was admitted. See Item C2, on page 6, here: http://www.american.edu/provost/oira/upload/CommonDataSet2011.pdf.

Not such hopeful news, Eagle20. Sorry to say it.

Not sure why the data is incorrect but my son was offered admission on May 5th last year. We had told him if he was taken off wait list and received a good FA package he could attend. He will finish up his first year tomorrow. He talked with the his admission liaison Chantal multiple times and that seemed to help. His girlfriend was taken off the wait list prior to May 1st. She did not need any FA.

I mean this most sincerely: how nice! I am surprised–but in a good way.
