for someone to recieve a lot of merit aid if they have stellar SATs and gpa, but hardly any ECs and no awards? If it is possible, which colleges would offer it?

it would totally depend on what college you're applying to. most/more competitive schools probably wouldn't offer merit aid like that, but maybe some less competitive schools would.

I don't think it would be unusual at all. Colleges give merit $$ to raise their stats. You need to focus on schools where you're in the very top of the applicant pool--top5-10%.

The few top schools that give merit aid like duke want it all.

Thanks for the advice/info, mj93 and suze.

Everyone seems to think ECs are so important. They are only important at top schools and when applying for scholarships. Otherwise, below the top 35 or so colleges, they won't matter much. The vast majority of colleges in this Country accept most of their applicants!!
