How long do parents usually stay? Do they just help with unloading & moving packages into the room or do they also unpack/set things up?

They do whatever they want.

Don’t be embarrassed by your parents, grow up.

They wont see you for awhile so kicking them out would be a dick move

I never knew that PurpleDuckMan was a fifth commandment type.

Who the hell is PurpleDuckMan?

goodnight son, see you in the morning = too long; them moving you in / you taking them out to dinner afterwards = the least you could do

What about convocation? Any parents attend?

Parents are invited to the convocation as well as the dinner preceding it: [Office of New Student Programs | Parents & Family | Welcome | Highlights - University of Michigan](http://onsp.umich.edu/parents_family/highlights.html). I’m sure you will see some parents at convocation and my (uneducated) guess would be that around 30-50% of the kids will have parents there. You’re paying for it, might as well enjoy it.

[What happened to the PDMan who started that love and happy face thread?]

On a similar thread recently, some moms described unpacking their sons’ suitcases and putting things away. I suspect that could be monumentally embarassing.

My mom came in and was putting stuff in my room. I didn’t really care, plus I wasn’t the only one. A lot if parents came in to meet the roommate/roommates parents
