I’m about to finish my Psychology ADT in California, just one more class to take during the winter and I’ll graduate during Spring '19. My problem is that I’ve been planning to move to Texas within the next year or two, and I want to establish residency before applying so I qualify for in-state tuition. How long will my units last? I should be applying to CSUs now if I were to stay in Cali.
What are my options? My counselors couldn’t help me with this. Is it possible to start school in Cali and take a year break in Texas before transferring to a university over there? Any advice or opinions would be very helpful.
College credits do not expire. That transcript is valid for your entire life. Don’t worry about taking the time you need to establish residence in another state.
However, you do need to remember that each place sets its own policy about what credits to accept for transfer. If the CSUs guarantee to accept all of your credits, it might make best sense to finish college there and move to Texas after you finish your education.
