how long can the why emory essay be

<p>the common app does not give parameters, the emory application says the average length is one half of one page...</p>

<p>mine is a full page typed....</p>

<p>the weird thing is if the average is 1/2 page then really everybody's is probably one half page because who would be stupid enough to write 1/4 page (a few sentences) about why they are choosing emory to average out the people who write 3/4 pages....</p>

<p>i do realize though that they say the average length for both essays is 1/2 page and the 2nd in the couplet is the extracurricular essay which i know is definitely less than 1/2 page at about 150 words..</p>

<p>I think you're thinking about it too much. If it's a good essay, they won't care if it goes over 1/2 page a little bit. One page is fine, but I wouldn't let it go too much farther.</p>

<p>I think one page is perfect, mine was 503 words long.</p>

<p>mine from last year was REALLLLLY long... like more than 700 words. but i still got in!</p>

<p>mine was 412...and i thought mine was long. haha. i think if you have a good, unique essay, the length doesnt really matter. good luck!</p>

<p>I don't think they're really expecting anything too crazy and unique, just something to show that you've done your research and Emory really is a good match for you. My essay was ~300 words and went over specific programs at Emory that I am interested in. Be specific and try to avoid being cliche.</p>

<p>(Another thing I did with my essay is, because I have relatively weak ECs from HS, talk about how Emory would provide ECs and organizations that were unavailable to me as a HS student. I did this so I could offer some sort of 'patch' to the gaping EC hole in my app.)</p>
