Just got my acceptance via portal. When should I receive the package?
The earlier admits seemed to get their envelopes in about a week to two weeks, depending on how far away you are… That release window was also around holiday time, so maybe it took longer? Not sure.
@blackbird881 I’m in upstate NY does it make a difference?
@mikescarn I looked back at the EA admissions thread. My D received an email and portal notification on 12/21 and her letter with merit scholarship arrived on 12/30. We are in MN. I think the first letters appeared on 12/28, from what I saw. Hopefully you will experience a similarly quick follow up. Congratulations on your acceptance!
Just curious- Does Miami Univ send e-mails with acceptance or just a notification in the portal and then a snail mail package? Son applied Regular, not EA.
@dogladyJ For EA, people either got an email that said to check their portal, or read on here that people were receiving notices and then logged into their portal and found out. A whole bunch came out on one evening over a few hours it seemed like. Then maybe more over the next day or so. There was a letter on portal that said if you were admitted, and to what program. Some people also found out if they were in the Honors or Scholars program in that initial online/portal letter. A few days later a very nice large envelope came with a more formal “congrats you’re in” message, and then a few days after that a business sized envelope that had a letter about Merit scholarship if you received one. At least that is how it went for my D. Maybe start a Miami RD acceptance thread here and people can chime in when they receive notice?
@dogladyJ Did you already know that your D was going to receive a scholarship because it was on the portal or did you only know when you got the letter by mail?
@meimei29 Do you mean me?
Yes @blackbird881 sorry I got confused
Miami is pretty transparent about who will receive merit aid but you won’t find out an exact dollar amount until you receive the letter. We also received it about a week after the portal updated.
@meimei29 no problem. We expected that my D would receive some merit dollars from Miami based on her stats and the grid on the scholarships page on Miami’s website, but didnt know how much until the letter came. I believe Miami encourages early application for best shot at merit dollars on their website, but I might be mixing that up with another school. They have a range posted based on stats, and In state or out of state. Some members posted on the EA applicant thread as those letters came in.
On my portal they said the amount, so maybe I won’t get a formal letter?
@meimei29 maybe they do it differently for RD. If you are accepted and already know your merit dollars, then congratulations!
What does it mean on mt portal when they say that my final award will be on my acceptance package? Does it mean that I might get more money than what was on my portal?
@mikescarn That language is similar to the letter my daughter received, but at a different point. In my daughter’s letter that contained her merit scholarship information, it stated that her full financial aid package would be mailed in mid March, and would include notification of any need-based financial aid and contain her final scholarship award amount(s). I would assume this means that more awards may be granted to some when they finish reviewing all applicants and offering admission. Two other universities my D has been accepted to sent letters with additional scholarships a few months after her initial scholarship notification, so I would guess it is a possibility. Good luck!
