I’m writing my essays right now and I estimate that it will take me two weeks to complete them. How long did it take you to complete yours?
My son did them over the entire winter break, then tweaked them over and over until the day before the deadline. He applied to 5 schools.
@Altras I respect your son’s grind. How many essays did he have to write? 7?
If I recall correctly, most schools had at least 1 long essay, 2-3 short essays and some short answer responses.
Don’t forget the parent statements (i.e. essays) too. They are not easy or to be put off until the last minute. That reminds me…time to take my boarding school application PTSD medication… @-)
Usually it takes me 10-20 minutes to write one 500 word supplement and then I have a college friend look over it. After that, I edit it, so it takes me a day or two to write one or two essays.
@CavsFan2003 Woah! It takes me 10-20 minutes to get the creative juices flowing in my mind. I bet your a lot more straightforward in your essays though.
@YoungThriver I have no creative juices
Jk, mostly. I usually write down my bare thoughts and then it takes longer for me to like get everything perfect after my friend edits it.
@CavsFan2003 Makes sense. Can you PM me? I don’t know how to do it.
Kiddo began essays early - like in September and then put them aside, then edited over Thanksgiving. Some schools were SAO and others Gateway…a couple of schools had their own…I think Choate had the most parent essays the year we applied. One school had a supplemental essay for creative writing and another school requested an essay along with the visual arts portfolio submission (which was an extra). Kiddo finished essays before the parents finished their essays.
