How long did you prepare for SAT?

And what was it like? Did you study every day for about 3-5 hours or you just reviewed and did practice tests? For how many points did you improve your score by preparation?
Any other information about your studying for SAT is also appreciated.
Sorry for so many questions, I'm just curious =)

Bought book, did 1 hour a day for 2months and some past papers. It’s not really hard.

HI there.

Buy this :
McGraw-Hills SAT, 2010 Edition
Grubers Complete SAT Guide 2009

These books helped me a lot ! I took SAT last May, i only prepared a month before the exam. 4-6Hrs a week.

‘SAT I’ doesn’t require such preparation. But it requires a lot of Concentration!

I scored 680M 640CR 610W and I only took it once. And im from Morocco and i study in a French Secondary school. I have 12 years of French/Arabic and Few years in English @a private language school.
If i was English i’d have scored +750 or so (:

PS : Watchout for the time during the exam ! And good luck …

This is what I did when I gave it first time

I planned around 3 months before SAT to review the vocab list each and everyday maybe a 100 words a day and would practice a section of W and M …this would take maximum of 2-3 hours. Then 2 weeks before exams I took practice tests from Princeton Review and Collegeboard.

BTW the exercises at Grubbers are awesome and really helpful
and there are lot of links in CC too!
best of luck!

DarthSpawnus, it sounds almost exactly like my plan for summer! =) But I’m taking 1 test every 10 days.

2 weeks, all you gotta do is 1 practice test from the blue book everyday.

@prostozina

Yeah I am an international and I had some tough time balancing SAT and my school work
SAT math and english is easy but the key is practice

Your plan sounds good because you will be giving practice tests earlier and you get to know faster where your weaknesses are

all the best :)

bump anyone else?

Completed the BB, mc graw 2010, and PR in 12 days. Memorized tonnes of vocab, plus a few useful essay examples.

I believe I could have done better had I practiced more.
Ah well, next retake in oct.

bumpppppppp

How did it work out for you, prostozina?

I used the kaplan book one month before may2011 sat and got 1770. After that I used all the sat tips on cc(silverturtles, blue book, direct hits, question of the day etc), registered for the june sat and got 2070( math740,c.r.600,writing730). I will advice you not to use kaplan. Its not a representation of the real test. Good luck!

Adversa, I’m waiting for my November scores now.
But I did one of the worst things to myself, I almost didn’t study this summer and I had a busy September, so I had to go through incredible amount of studying in October. And now I’m preparing for SATs II

Jeez! Diddo! Same thing! Except for I had a busy summer and a busy September and had to take time off work to prepare for the thing. Aaaaand we’re in the same boat for 5 days till the scores are out seem like a total bs!

I’m glad to read that I’m not alone :D

am an international student, registered but didnt prepare for it, panicked the last 5 days and browsed through the format. gonna do some practice this round and try for 2350+

are you from moldova and applying to mit? ><’ if so, chill, you’re in.
