how long did you wait to be accepted ('08 people)

One of my friends had a 1200 and the other a 1250.

I had a 3.5 gpa, and a 1300/1950. But I also took 9 AP classes

The stats were 1250/1310 with 3.7 (unw) at a competitive private school. Great leadership activites, and great references, award in Environmental Science.

My son applied in late Aug/early Sept and has not heard. All are supposed to hear by Jan 21. He had 3.1 unweighted, 3.8 weighted soph through Jr year but had better grades in Jr year. SAT 1380, ACT 30. 1st quarter this (Sr year) he has 3.8 or 3.9 unweighted. College of Arts & Sciences undecided; said he would be willing to start in the summer. Did not write a personal statement because we were under the (false) impression that with rolling admissions it's better to get the application in early. Fortunately this is not his first choice and he has already been admitted EA at another school....

did he withdraw his app?

reasonwhy, he'll probably get in for summer, i cant imagine him getting into fall with a 3.1

slugger, they only look at weighted if thats what you send.

and does he have to withdraw his app form psu or is it different with EA?

They look at everything, whether you send them, they look at, other than letters of recommendations and essays. Unweighted GPA, AP's, Honors, Courses, they look at everything, they would be ignorant not to.

yea i agree. do you think if i sent a speical letter they would look at that? and what do they look at if ur borderline?

I spoke to them over the phone over this exact issue as a matter of fact.

As it says on their website "The most important factor, the high school grade-point average (GPA), accounts for approximately two-thirds of the admission decision. The remaining one-third of the decision is based on other factors, which may include standardized test scores, class rank, personal statements, and activities lists."

Usually GPA (unweighted, weighted and rigor of courseload all taken into consideration) is accounted for 2/3 of admission and the other 1/3 is based on SAT or ACT scores.

In some cases, those who are borderline, meaning they are a little below the middle 50%, they also account extra curriculars, class rank and personal statement in the 1/3 of the decision with the SAT/ ACT scores. They DO NOT look at any outside essays or letters of recommendations.

Even for those people who have a low GPA and test scores, you must remember, 25% of people that are admitted to PSU-UP have lower GPA's and scores than 3.57 and 26 ACT.

My understanding is that they do not look at anything (recommendations, etc) beyond the minimum. We have a friend whose child went to USC but was rejected from PSU main campus! They called to ask whether admissions at PSU had looked at all of the recommendations, etc and were told that they didn't have time to do that. They did put the student on a list of kids who were not accepted although they were qualified and who also called to complain about the decision. These kids who called to ask/complain are then drawn on if there are openings, I think....

I applied Oct. 28, they reached a decision Nov 19, got my letter Nov. 24th.

My GPA wasn't that good (3.3 UW) and I'm out of state. SAT was pretty good (740CR/730M/710W).

I am extremely nervous!!

I heard mid December, 3.4, 1190 SAT, accepted to Altoona. Not sure if I'm going, waiting on Pitt.

pitt is being really weird this year. my guidance consulor was surprised when i didnt get in. they rejected a lot of really smart people but accepted, well, .. "not so smart" people. its reaaaaaal weird and hard to say

they waitlisted a lot of people too, its apperntly harder to get into then psu

yeah i've heard that too. at paternoville in psu (idk if youve ever heard of that) they have a chant that goes "if you cant get into college, go to pitt." (college meaning penn state.) but apparently not anymore haha

As a sophmore I was very nervous waiting everyday for that fat letter. I know its hard to not think about because trust me I was in your shoes not too long ago. I was one of those kids that was shouting that at Paternoville this year. If anyone has any questions about this let me know.

I applied on the last day for EA ;) and got my acceptance on December 22nd.

School of Engineering, no money
