I just talked to someone who goes to pitt…and she told me that she heard pitt is trying to go private..that explains why they are being so tough this year

aha i seeeee. interesting.

well psu > pitt
in my opinion ;)

quartknee49, I disagree with you. Pitt is now more highly regarded than PSU. For example, the nursing, business, and engineering schools are ranked higher nationally.

I think in general social situations though, PSU is far more highly regarded. Even my family in VA have heard of and respect PSU as an institution. I think it’s one of the benefits of going to a well known and strong large public college.

nurse123 - could you confirm that statement?
Last time I looked PSU’s business program was ranked in the low 30s in BW (compared to 50s for Pitt) and is in the top 20 for US News, with certain programs like supply chain management and finance in the top 15. I don’t even remember Pitt being on the radar screen.
I know PSU’s engineering program is also in the top 20.
Not that I believe in the rankings necessarily, but you should back up what you say with numbers. I think Pitt probably has a fine business program but come on…

According to US News, Penn State engineering is ranked 17th in the nation overall for schools where the highest degree is a doctorate. Pitt is ranked 52nd. The only engineering curriculum that Pitt is ranked higher than PSU is in Biomedical engineering.

Wow. I actually believed him/her for a second. But then I went to check the rankings and saw PSU is ranked in the top 20 for a lot of their engineering majors. And when I went to look for Pitt, I don’t even see them…

By the way, we’re 12th for ME. I’m not leaving. :)

nurse - i didnt mean statistically, i meant just in general psu is way better. (but obviously psu is even statistically better anyways). its just an overall better place! they dont call it happy valley for no reason.

:)
