Today when I was in the middle of my SAT math section, I tried to turn on my TI-89, and to my horror, nothing happened! I've only been using it rather sporadically for about four months... is that typically how long the batteries last?

Another question: I switched the order of the four batteries to see if that would help, and it did turn on for a few seconds, but when I checked my Notefolio, all the formulas and stuff I'd painstakingly typed in were gone. I thought the backup battery was supposed to keep that from happening?

It's quite possible, especially if you have it turned on for prolonged periods of time and calculating multiple equations simultaneously. Also, games and other such applications use more battery than the normal functions.

You may not want to switch batteries and try to turn it on, this could cause damage to the applications and loss of memory. This especially happens when it abruptly turned off. Just get new batteries from the dollar store ;).

So when the battery dies, how do you keep from losing the memory? Can anything be done?

I'll be getting some new batteries, although they cost a lot more than a dollar around here!

Once you actually make the file that you are going to save it as (Ex. "first" for Notefolio), you want to make sure that it (usually an application variable) is archived. This is allow the actual file not to be deleted when abruptly turned off.

How do you archive it?

2nd + Varlink , Then select the file(s) with the F4 button and press F1 Then scroll down to Choice 8 (or just press 8):archive
and also for notefoilo there is an option u can set from somewhere (i forgot exactly where and i dont have my calculator right now) that makes it on Auto-Archive That way you dont lose anything Thats only for notefolio thought :)

Oh cool, thanks. I'll definitely try that when I get some new batteries!
