If I apply to a school for early action and get accepted, how long is the invitation good for, usually? That is to say, will I have time to wait for the April acceptance letters and compare schools before making a decision, or do school typically prefer that one accepts the admission within a few weeks?

Once you’re accepted to the school, whether EA or RD, you have until May 1 to respond to an acceptance, so yes you will have time to see all your decisions before you actually decide which school you want to attend.

For schools with rolling admissions make sure you check the particular colleges rules. Usually you have until May 1 to accept but they somemay require you to respond earlier if you want to be considered for certain scholarships; also check their housing rules; some may award housing in order of applications for it and you can first apply for housing after you accept admission and thus you could be at a housing disadvantage if you wait until May 1 to accept (example: Auburn does that and it does not have enough housing for freshman so you may end up with no on campus housing if you wait to accept and apply for housing).
