How long does it take for the SAT to expire?

Hey, I have a quick question. Lets say I take the SAT today June 09, 2007. After the score is filed, how long does it take for the SAT score to get out of my record as in for the colleges to not see it anymore? Like.. if I apply 4 years after I take the SAT will it qualify for the colleges? Thanks everybody!

If you are in high school, it will always be there.

Really? I heard that it never expires.

I've heard that it's valid for just 2 years.

They do not expire. But most scools will no longer accept the 'old' SAT(Jan 2005 & earlier I think) though it would still appear on any reports you send.

Scores from ninth grade and above stay on your record of scores while you are in high school. (If I remember correctly, they are archived about a year after you graduate.) If the concern here is retaking the SAT after taking it once before, that shouldn't be a worry. Read

for details about that. If the concern is about a test taken in eighth grade or below, that is even less of a worry, as those scores are removed from the permanent record of scores by default, and they wouldn't be harmful anyway for the reasons explained in the link above.

If you want to keep an earlier score, rather than have it disappear, you can request that an eighth grade or younger score be kept (but do that right after taking the test, to ensure that College Board doesn't screw up) and you can request that archived scores be restored to your record if you have graduated from high school and want to apply to college after the scores were archived. Most young people apply to college while they are still in high school, but perhaps you have an exceptional situation in mind. Good luck.

Thank you everybody!
