Let's see ... a Supreme Court Justice in a couple of months ... A new leader for all the activities in Afghanistan in a few days ... a new Superintendent for the US Naval Academy in a month or two ... A new Superintendent for the US Merchant Marine Academy ... nine months and counting. I'd guess it has something to do with the lack of competency in the hiring agency ... Marad. Where is the outrage?

Really, get it done! The Merchants need a super!

I would agree. This is an OUTRAGE that in 8 months we still don’t have a Superintendent!!

While I applaud the efforts of the Dean to accept double duty – we do need a FULL TIME Superintendent! My vote goes to a KP Grad who knows how the program works. Although the Naval Academy is a Great Institution – they are not MARINERS and their program is distinctly different from KP. I nominate Captain Doug Hard – he would be an excellent superintendent but he still has to teach NAV LAW!!

since that’s how the process for selection of such a position really works… and let’s nominate a great teacher who though he is a great teacher has never held any administrative duties at the USMMA despite being on the faculty for over 30 years - since the position being filled is one of a managerial/administrative nature and that sort of career history would indicatehe definately would want sucha position in the twighlight of his career…

Hey, as long as we’re day-dreaming here, I know of a guy who’s gonna be out of work in - oh probably another month or so. Unfortunately he’s not an alumnus of KP. But he did come up through one of the other academies and he has basically rewritten all the books on leadership over the past decade. He made quite a name for himself during Katrina then served as Commandant of one of the other services until just recently. Now he’s heading up the Federal effort in the Gulf of Mexico. Like I said, I imagine he’ll be out of work pretty soon. Maybe MARAD is waiting for him to be available.

Now, all kidding aside, I do agree with all of you. It’s time to make a selection and move forward.

The “announcement” is tomorrow.

So does that mean some little cherub in a bright orange wig and red dress with white polka dots like the Girl Leads in the Tony Winning Musical “Annie” was on the Oval belting out a rendition of “The Sun’ll Come Out Tomarrow” this morning right after morning colors?

All eyes have been fixed on the smokestack of the KingsPointer… straining to see if a signal from the esteemed assemblage ensconced therein have reached a decision.

And LOOK, WHITE SMOKE has appeared !
A new Superintendent has been selected !

:)

OK, I’m not sure if electing a Pope is quicker or not.
But, I totally supportive of HOWEVER long it took to make the best decision for USMMA.
Now, DOT should do EVERYTHING to support this guy and these Midshipmen as QUICKLY and as FULLY as possible. They ALL have been waiting for it, and deserve it.

(Also, special thanks to Dean Kumar for throwing himself in the breach and doing what was necessary)
