How long does it take to fill out FAFSA?

The March 2 deadline is for the 2009-2010 school year, not for 2008-2009. You have already missed any 2008-2009 deadlines by a year. This does not necessarily mean you cannot get aid for the remainder of 2008-2009 - just that you have missed the priority deadlines - some aid that is limited in availability is probably unavailable.

My recommendation would be that you meet the deadlines for the upcoming year by filing the 2009-2010 FAFSA using 2008 tax data. Then do the 2008-2009 using 2007 tax data to see if you are eligible for any for the remainder of 2008-2009. A day or so will not make a difference as you are so late applyint for 2008-2009. It may make a big difference if you miss the march 2nd deadline for the 2009-2010 FAFSA.

You need to stop worrying about what the deadlines on the FAFSA website is and look at the deadline for your school. That is the deadline you need to meet for priority consideration of aid from the school.

so you have the possibility of aid for your transfer school. Do that now.

Gather tax forms for yourself and parents and visit the FAFSA4caster site so you can adjust things if necessary w/o submitting corrections.

Any info you enter can be transferred to the FAFSA itself.

Stop in your college’s financial aid office tomorrow and discuss the 2008-2009 FAFSA with them, especially if you have any unusual circumstances that might warrant aid.

If we were to submit the FAFSA today, 3/1, would we have missed the 3/2 deadline since it takes about 3-5 days for the FAFSA to get processed?

And I agree wholeheartedly with swimcatsmom. Your school’s processing schedule should be your main concern. You want to be as close to the front of the line as possible.

It is way too late to worry about whether filing on the 2nd will be too late or not. You really need to just get on with it and file FAFSA ASAP instead of wasting your time worrying about something you cannot change.

All right, thanks. Greatly appreciate all the clarification.
