How long does it take to get an admission decision?

I applied to Drexel about 5 days ago, and on my DiscoverDrexel account it says:

Thank you for your application. Your file is currently complete and under review. A decision has not yet been made regarding your admission status to Drexel University. If additional materials are required before an admission decision can be rendered, we will contact you.

How long does it take from this point to get an admission decision?

I was wondering that myself. I submitted mine twice because I wasn’t sure where or what to put for my supplemental essay on the common app, so I did that and the VIP app also because it was just easier to access and I knew what I was supposed to write. Hopefully that doesn’t complicate things…

Mine took three weeks and I used the VIP application.

My D has been waiting 5 weeks so far since her application was listed as complete. Applied for a major in Psychology. Hoping to hear back one of these days now…

Applied about 3 weeks ago. Hope to hear something soon…longest decision so far!

My son’s took about two weeks.

I spoke with an admissions counselor at Drexel to try to understand the process–why are some people hearing within less than 2 weeks while others are still waiting 5-6 weeks?

All I could get from the admissions counselor was that decisions could be anywhere from now until April 1. How helpful is that?!!

Also- she said there was no rhyme, reason or plan for the order in which applications are reviewed. How does that even make sense? Perhaps there is some system that they don’t want to reveal? Hard to believe it would simply be random selection.

I know that is all as clear as mud. So good luck to everyone and hopefully those waiting for decisions will not have to wait until April first!

I received my decision one month to the day from when they said my application was complete.

I’m a member of the Drexel admissions staff and want to clarify the decision timeline for this year - I’m sorry it’s so confusing! For the first time in a decade, Drexel is not growing the size of our freshman class - we are holding at 3,000. As a result, we have to carefully admit students to ensure that we meet goals for each college within the university (i.e. can’t admit all Engineers or too few Business majors). In past years, as we were growing, we could admit without limit (for those applicants who met our criteria) to almost all of the colleges but this year, as our application pool grows and the class size stays the same, decision-making is a bit trickier.

So what does this mean for you or your applicant? As my colleague noted, we commit to providing every applicant a decision by April 1st (which feels like a million years from now, I know!) While we are sending some decisions at this time, our review and decision-making processes are extensive and somewhat complex due to the changes we are making to the size of the freshman class. I don’t mean to be vague but the process is designed to treat every applicant fairly - even if that takes a little longer than folks would like.

I know this process can be confusing and frustrating (for us too, sometimes!) but hang in there and please contact our office if you have any questions: 215.895.2400 or enroll@drexel.edu.

du2012- thanks for coming on to clarify things a bit. Reading between the lines, it sounds as though there is a bit of rationing of the engineering admits, and perhaps you are looking for more business admits? What about applicants to the school of arts and sciences? Is it easier to be admitted undecided, rather than specifying a very popular major, such as psychology?

Also- I am wondering whether the availability and amount of scholarship money varies by major, assuming that applicants are otherwise equal.

Thanks and I hope that you can shed some light on the process!

Oh Great:( DS applied a software engineering major. If he gets in the money probably wont be enough. I guess we should be glad he got into Rutgers Engineering so he has an affordable option. My family always has bad timing.

i’ve sent a pm to du2012 hoping that he/she will respond to the additional questions.

Hi all-Thanks for your follow-ups to my post and your continued interest in Drexel. Let me give you some reassurance…the examples that I gave regarding Engineering/Business were just generic hypotheticals to illustrate that we need to balance our class. My advice is that your child apply to the major that they are most sincerely interested in (always go with “Plan A” first). If she/he receives a wait list or deny decision, contact our office and we can help them move to “Plan B” (perhaps selecting another major or submitting updated grades). I hope this information is helpful and look forward to continuing any discussion that may assist you.
