I have a balance of $6,501.00- only because my mom jobs pays for half my tuition so that’s what I have left over. would I get back that money ? if so would I get back the full $6,501.00- or no ? and one more thing is that in the refund column on web advisor there is $0.00 but the financial aid advisor said i should be getting a refund check but she doesn’t know when I’ll be getting it. they receive on the check on Monday, I know its only been 3 days…I was wondering should I just email and ask how much will my refund check be and when would I receive it ? but i feel that’s tacky lol. I attend Barry university in Miami shores.
It is never ‘tacky’ to ask for your own money back.
It varies by school. One of my kids’ school refunded any over payment on Wednesdays and she’d elected to receive that by a direct deposit into a bank account, so the money would be there the same day. The other daughter’s school was much slower. No over payments were processed until after the drop/add day, then they processed them on Thursdays. For her last 2 years, they contracted with Heartland (a student loan servicer and bank) so the school would send the info to Heartland and then Heartland would take its sweet time to send out a check. It took 4-5 weeks from the start of the semester even though everything was paid up at the start of the semester.
Whether you get the money back may depend on how it was paid and what the restriction is. If you are using the Florida resident grant, that can only be used for tuition. Bright Futures can be used how the school decides. If your mother’s tuition money can also only be used for tuition, it may not all be refunded to you.
Work with the bursar’s office or FA to determine what (and when) you can expect to get back.
Does your refund include a loan?
Is that $6500 left over for the year? Or for one term?
its left over for the year
@Madison85 it doesn’t, its left over money from what my mom job sent.
@twoinanddone thank you, i email them and see when and how much i’ll be getting back
If you have a refund for the full year, you will only get 1 term worth now
Damnn I could do with the Full 6K Now lol but thank you very much, they said in 15 business days from 9/16/18 I’ll get a refund. Although I asked how much I’ll be getting she never answered me, only said when I’ll be getting it. I have 2 weeks left. I’ll update if I receive it
You should be able to see the refund amount on your billing page from the school. It will show tuition, fees, etc, and then amounts applied. There should be a negative amount at the bottom and you’ll get that.
It’s very likely your mother’s company only paid half now.
I got the full 6500 refunded to me. Thanks for the guidance
