How long does it take to hear back usually?

I'm glad that UMich has rolling admissions! If I were to turn my application in on November 12 or 19, when would I hear back? How long does it usually take to receive a decision? Thanks!

The longer you wait to turn in the application, the longer the waiting process may become due to them receiving more and more applications as time passes. Why are you waiting until November to apply? Do it now. They state that Halloween is the usual cut-off date for applying early. The later you apply, the slimmer your chances are of getting accepted due to the seats getting filled up in the class.

if i applied mid september, and my stats are 3.9 gpa/30 act, any guesses as to when i'll hear back?

Icicle,

I applied mid September and have a 4.0 and 29 act, and people keep telling me to expect a response in late October. Hope this helps.

You can call and they can tell you whether or not a decision has been reached, they just can't tell you the decision over the phone. My friend did this last year.

how soon can one call?

i was thinking that maybe some ppl have already been admitted, it's just that they haven't sent out any letters yet.

could this be, or have they basically done nothing yet? why can't they get a move on! jeez. it's their freakin' job.

I think the only person on here that knows information like that on here is Hoedown.

Something interesting: nearly every single one (all except for one!) of my friends admitted to U of M last year got their letter on a Saturday!

That job takes time. Having 2-3 readers look over each application adds to the processing time. I assure you they are doing their jobs.

And yes, U-M has begun to make some admit decisions.

RobotFOOD, if you send your application in mid November, expect to hear back from Michigan in mid-late January. The thing is, most applicants apply between October and December, which means that those who apply in that period will have to wait longer to be processed. I always advise students to apply in late August or in September.

For those qualified candidates who apply in September, expect an answer before Thanksgiving.

Last year, I found out that I was admitted on a Monday. (Heh. I checked CC before I got home that day, and there was a thread started about decisions being known so I had a feeling it would be there before I even got to the mailbox.) I didn't get my application in until mid-October so I found out during mid-December (around the time when other schools were giving out their ED decisions).

The adcom is doing its job (and very well in fact). They have to process thousands of application so it takes time. I'd personally rather wait longer for the decision and have them spend time reading my application than hear back quickly with them just brushing over it.

Does being an international applicant affect how long it takes to reply even if I'm relatively well-qualified?

In my experience, Internationals are dealt with in a similar fashion as US applicants. The only difference is the main takes a little longer to reach.

lol, okay, that's no problem, then. I live in Michigan. xD Just a few hours' drive from Ann Arbor. (My school normally sends a 20-25 pack of seniors to U of M each year)

Then you will not see a difference between yourself and your fellow classmates. You will be handled the same way.

Great! Thanks. ^_^
