Mmm... in my case, it's probably a combination of the fact that I read a LOT and that I like practicing my peripheral vision skills when I'm bored. Reading quickly uses one's peripheral vision a LOT (and hey, it's also how I can walk and read simulataneously without running into walls and people). I've always read quickly, though.

At this point I don't lose anything on comprehension compared to reading more slowly. The one consequence to reading quickly that I've noticed is that I sometimes miss spelling mistakes or typos.

My D. who has a visual disability that slows reading, takes several weeks to get through a book. She really has to push hard to get through 20 pages in a day, which takes well more than an hour. Unfortunately, this causes her to never want to read for pleasure...oh, along with the fact that her eyes hurt after a few minutes. I myself read very quickly for pleasure, often reading several books at a time. If a book has beautifully crafted language (like 100 years of solitude) I try to slow down to savor it.

I read really, really slow. THis is what screws me over on the SAT Critical Reading and AP English practice tests. :(

But in the case of a book that I really like, I can finish in a matter of days (because that's all I do). Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to read a book.

It depends. Books that are for class, I... well, actually, I generally don't read them. But ones I read for fun, I read really fast. I took a test once, I think it was 1000 words a minute with 100% comprehension and retention. I can read faster sometimes, but I'll miss details.

Yeah, I'm going to agree with the other poster that I lose the grammar mistakes/typos I usually find if I go really fast.

I read both Candide and "The Prince" in a day. I read half of "The Structure of Scientific Revolutions" in a day. I also read half of some other books in a day. hm

I read Harry Potter and the HBP in 5 hours.

I actually timed myself from 12:30 AM (when i got home)

:P Can't wait for the new one!

heh i was teased so much in elementary school - but i read about 180 pages per hour :D

Hmmm.. see, I can read fast (2 pages a minute) but then I don't pick up the deeper meanings.. I can get the general meaning, sure, I can get the synopsis. But I like READING and really, really understanding all of the subtleties.

I read Harry Potter 6 in less than a day.
And I read my two summer reading books in four hours..but they weren't that long.
I don't read that much...the last book I read was Crime and Punishment for pleasure (I don't know why)...it took me like a week and a half to finish.

Does anyone else have this problem?

Reading extremely fast but not remembering any of it at all.

=( the only advice I've gotten is to make images in my head as I read
ehh..maybe because I read anime subtitles more then 2 hours a day

I do that all the time too. It sucks.
