I've been reading past threads on this forum that said UT Austin had "pseudo rolling admission" where those in the top 10% would hear soon after they apply that they are accepted.

So does this mean they will also notify you if you got into your first choice major or not?

And if it is similar to rolling, how long would it take for them to notify you?

haha sorry if these questions are redundant.

Well, I'm in-state top 10% and I found out that I was accepted to the university and into McCombs (my first choice major) within a week of sending my application in. Now, I'm hearing that not all people are hearing about being accepted into their first choice majors, but just into the university. I'm in the top 1% of my class, so I think that goes along with the admissions process into McCombs and engineering. They take the top 1%, then top 2%, etc. until they fill 75% of the positions. Then they pool the rest of the in-state top 10% and OOS applicants for the remaining 25%. I'm by no means an admissions counselor, but from what I've heard, only the people at the top of their classes are finding out first choice majors right now.

Yeah I'm top 1% too, but I'm applying to Plan II Honors, and I heard that was very high in demand so I don't know what's going to happen there. So if you don't make it into your first major, do they at least tell you if you got your second choice? Or do they just tell you of admission into the university?

Well, considering you're in the same percentile as me, I would imagine that you would find out or major/school when you find out about the university admission. So did you choose Plan II as your first choice major? If so, then it'll take a bit more time for you to find out - decisions are expected sometime after December 15. I also applied for Plan II, but as my second choice major. What did you put as your second choice?

Is there any disadvantage to NOT sending in your application early? I'm in top 2% of my class (in-state) and I'm a URM (does that even matter at UT? maybe not...) and I'm also probably applying to Plan II Honors...but is it the case that all the spots will fill up if I don't get my application in early? I'm planning on sending it before January 1 but probably not much before then. Should I try to have it in earlier?
