I know all schools will be different with how long they will take, but what is the typical time it takes for a coach to let you know what the results of a preread are?

If possible, get the time frame when the documents are handed to the coach. I’d give a week.

But, nothing stops in your world of getting recruited - you continue to go to showcases, meets, visits, etc, in attempts to garner interest. Remember: until you have an offer in hand, you have nothing. Now, which kind of offer is reliable may differ depending upon the NCAA division, league, and coach.

Honestly, I don’t recall getting a report back from the coach on the academic pre-read. The recruiting conversation continued and officials were offered, so they must have been ok.

In my d/s case ( d-3 experience) it varied from school to school. In some cases she heard back in 2-3 weeks. Other coaches told her pretty much right away at an unofficial visit. In this case the coach brought info over to admissions while she was touring with a student. When we returned to speak with the coach she said its likely d/s would be admitted. One coach said d/s needed to raise a certain score. Another coach never got back to her for months. Finally, my d/s emailed and she said work load not strong enough. Coach did not bother to let my kid know. Interestingly, this coach sent d/s emails meant for another recruit on 2 occasions with specific info. In the end, the coach left the program a few months later. I would say 2-3 weeks on average was the norm for NESCAC. In d-3 the pre-reads were very informal and it did not seem like anyone was in a big hurry-ED1-Dec.

About five days after D sent her scores/courses to ivy coach she got an email back from coach saying admissions gave her a “thumbs up” and that things looked good.

Interesting, so would it be considered abnormal for an Ivy League to take 2 weeks or longer to get back to you?

Honestly, I don’t know what happens in most cases. I was just offering D’s experience as an example. I imagine a lot depends on the traffic at admissions when your pre-read is being done. Others may have more information but now could be a busier time than January for admissions. Also as you said time could vary from school to school. Personally I can’t imagine they do pre-reads unless they are very interested, so you should get an answer soon! Good luck!

I have experience with this at cornell, while I haven’t gotten my pre read results back yet since my info was only submitted a couple days ago, coach archer at cornell told me that it would probably take a week.

Thanks for everyone’s help, I guess all I can really do now is just wait!

Back in 2005 it took 2-3 weeks at Cornell for the pre-read.
