how long does penn state take to respond to your application?

I've heard about six weeks, but someone else told me I shouldn't hear until mid/late November at the earliest.

Well the deadline is November 30th. Some people in the past heard 1st part of November - these are usually the students with extremely high SAT scores & high GPAs. My daughter heard December 1st, but a lot of students don’t hear until January. I think they take high/low (not in) and those student more to the middle of the pack will hear January. Look at last year’s threads and you will see the pattern.

I applied near the end of November and didn’t hear back until the first week of February. It just depends, really.

The earliest you would hear will be sometime in November, regardless of how early you applied. As noted above, there is no one answer for how long it takes for acceptances. Many kids apply in September and don’t hear back until January. D2 applied in October, 2009 and heard back about a month later in November. But, again, there is no way to forecast how long it will take to hear back. Just be sure to apply before the end of November.

Our daugher applied about 3rd week of October and found out Dec. 18th. I believe im may have to do with what school you apply to within Penn State. There were some kids that literally applied the first day and hadn’t heard back and in was January.

It also will depend on which College you have tentatively applied to, or which campus was your first/second choice. It would be unlikely to expect anything before early December. If you haven’t heard by mid-January, call.

nitnat: yep, my daughter applied end of Sept/early Oct and did not hear back until January.
3.8 average/unweighted and 1200 or maybe slightly higher SATs, but applied to the broadcast journalism program which had got a lot of press lately, before she applied. During her broadcast journalism orientation program, she found out the huge number of applicants that had applied and the large amount of students they had to cut out of necessity. (Funny, she has since changed her primary major to international politics…lolz)

I put in my application like November but didn’t hear back til February…but this is because I was music education and had to audition first. So I guess my point is moot.
