How Long is a typical MIT interview?

Hi,
I was just wondering if any one had any idea of how long a typical interview lasts? My son just had his interview and I am wondering how his time stacks up to what is considered the norm?
BTW his interview lasted over an hour and he left saying that they had so much to talk about and that it they discussed tons of stuff.

Thanks

Anecdata, I feel like I’ve heard .5-2hrs most often. It’s a large range.

Mine was supposed to be an hour, ran about 1hr15 min. It varies, shorter isn’t necessarily worse.

45-75 minutes is normal. 90 minutes is not unheard of. Anything much longer than 90 minutes or shorter than 45 is decidedly unusual.

According to my guy, it’s supposed to be an hour. We talked about 5-10 minutes extra.

I am a regional chair of the Educational Council. I can assure you that 45-75 minutes is an official guideline.

Mine was around an hour and 10 mins.

I had my interview just a few days ago. It lasted about an hour or so.

Makes me really worried. 15 minutes!

Mine was almost an hour

Mikalye, should I make an assumption that the EC is just going to be negative - may be lack of personal chemistry - given the short 15 minute interview? Feels like drawing the wrong straw.

Mikalye, I can’t PM you yet. Not enough posts. Thanks.

An interview that lasted only 15 minutes? What did you talk about? Why did it end so quickly?

oh man
mine was ~30 minutes
now i’m really worried

30 minutes is unusual, but not necessarily bad. An interview lasts until the interviewer has enough information. That usually takes more than 30 minutes, but not necessarily. Long is not necessarily good, nor is short inherently bad. My longest interview ever consisted of my hunting around for any topic, any at all, that the applicant actually cared about. I gave up without finding one, but it was a long interview.
