How long is too long?

<p>The last essay for the UVA app asks for approx 500 words or a page on a topic of your choice. I've written something for english class that I want to use....but its 1200 words. how much should i cut it down? i could probably get to around 800ish. Is that still too long?</p>

<p>I would definitely cut it down. I think 700 is pushing it, really. Mine is 650 and I'm a little worried myself. My counselor told us to keep our long essays under 750 words. The admissions officers don't like to have to read too much, I think is the problem.</p>

<p>CC is lucky enough to have a UVA adcom, so PM Dean J. You might be able to send it in as a supplemental essay; I'm not sure what UVA's policy is.</p>
