Well, the website version of the application does not state anything about the length of the Short Essay, and the paper version provides you about a half the page to write the Short Essay. So I can assume that they want the essay to be about a half page, which should equivalent to 300 words or less.
But just to make sure, how long was your essay? I wrote about 300 words, but I just wanted to make sure that mine isn't that long.

mine was 270, i think it was supposed to be in the 250-300 range so thats probably fine

If you open the application PDF on Georgetown's site, you can type directly into the application. Every time you run out of room typing in the Short Essay section, it just makes your font smaller.

I would assume they meant about 300 words, but as the font gets smaller, my 700 word essay technically "fits" into the space provided. Geogetown would probably hate me if I actually submitted it as is, but cutting it down makes me want to throw my laptop at the wall.

Dilemma.

Haha, a 700-word essay is too much.
Don't worry, you will somehow manage to narrow it down,
my 300-word essay was cut down from a 600-word essay.
Initially I thought it would be impossible to condense it more
from where it was, but I did succeed and it flows really well,
as if it was written to be 300 words originally.

A similar question, what did you guys write in the special talents or skills section?

That was a vague question imo. I wasn't sure if it was supposed to be answered by everyone, like if it was one of those extra information places. I think I missed out on an opportunity there.

I assumed it was an opportunity to offer a little more about yourself...I have alot of recognition for speaking and what not (speech and debate since freshman year) but that was already all over my app. So I wrote about how I learned to juggle from a group of natives on a trip to Haiti. It was pretty lighthearted. I hope they have a sense of humor...

For special talent I wrote my ability to speak without being preachy. I then likened all of that to being approachable.

i mostly just talked about how im fluent in french and spanish

yeah I didn't really use that space very well, I will probably add something there for my supplement assuming I get deferred.

omggg blueberri89 you just made me pee my pants laughing because i know exactly what your talking about--cutting down makes me want to slam my fists on the keyboard...but throwing hte laptop against the wall works jsut as well =]
