How long once OSU gets everything do you hear a decision?

I was just wondering how long until i find out about OSU. Online, i read that my application was complete as of Nov-27 and is under evaluation. How long do i need to wait? Thanks in advance

They say 10-12 weeks but it completely varies. I think "obvious" applicants (with high stats, so forth) get responses quicker than those they need to review a second time. I submitted mine in early early Oct and got the decision back before Dec. 1, so it was like 8 weeks, but I've heard of other submitting them just two-three weeks ago and having a response already (although I don't think anyone had a response earlier than this last week).

My D's "online application received" date was 11-20. She got a call last night that she was accepted. She's an Honors College candidate and I asked if the admission was for the Honors College or the general university. She said she didn't ask. She did say the caller was from the Honors program... so should we assume...?

Last year, my decision took three days from their receipt of all materials. It definitely varies.

MaryTN - you don't need to assume. Does your daughter have an ACT score >29? Was she in the top 10% of her graduating class? Then she's in. If her scores aren't up there, she's not. The Honors program apparently no longer allows petitioning for borderline students. You might want to check the Honors website to verify those stats - it's been awhile and I might not remember the exact rank you need to get in. Even if she doesn't get in the honors program, she can still take honors courses and apply to be in it her sophomore year. Good luck!

Thanks VelaenOscuridad. Yes, she has a 33 and is a valedictorian.

MaryTN, the admission you heard is for the university in general. Honors/Scholars invites don't get sent out for a little while, like a couple weeks after you've been notified of acceptance. Of course, it sounds like your daughter has the right stats -- so no worries.

What if your SAT's and ACT are good but you're not in the top 10%? My school doesn't rank but I only have a 3.6 unweighted.

I mean for Honor's. My SAT is 1420/2200.

I asked my caller, and she said the invite was sent today or yesterday, so you should probably know soon.

Wow. Fast. I'm not quite as high of an achiever (30 act), but I can write well, so my essays are solid. I hope for a quick decision, too... :-)

A week or two is a great turnaround! I've only gotten one like that so far (University of South Florida).

Amazon - the latest SAT is out of 2400, so I don't know what your score really is. If it is a 1420 out of 2400, I would not expect an invitation for the honors program. However, if you also took the ACT and your score was above a 29, you might be okay. If you school doesn't rank (mine didn't either), OSU compares your GPA to ALL applicants. A 3.6 might not be in the top 10% of the applicant pool.

Amazon, another thing to consider is this: when I talked to my hs's OSU rep about schools that don't release ranks, he said that OSU virtually calcuates your rank with information they already have, including GPA, school profile (how competitive your school is compared to others), and possibly test scores. All considered, they are able to accurately identify approximately where you would stand in your class, or something to that extent. Not sure if what he said was 100% true, but it sounded pretty viable.

Application summited Nov 15 online. Received this via email this morning.

Finally, all materials are processed and, if you weren't already aware, Mike has been offered admission to Ohio State. Please relay my congratulations to him on his acceptance! He should receive his acceptance letter through the mail and, soon after, an invitation to consider Honors at Ohio State. He looks to be strong enough academically to be considered for our Maximus scholarship competition, though I can't be certain since I do not make the decisions on that scholarship. If he is selected to compete for Maximus, he will receive notification in several weeks.

Nice news!!! :-D Tell him I said congratulations.

I submitted my application online on November 30 and I still can't check my status. I mainly want to make sure they have received everything. All I've gotten is confirmation that my application was submitted. I hope everything is OK. :-X.

<--Nervous

zacsrequiem ~ I received the acceptance via email only. My son has not received a conformation letter yet in the mail. I have been in contact with the admissions counselor that is assigned to NW OH for a few weeks. It only started out that I was asking a few questions, then it came to the point that she knew exactly who my son was and was watching for his application and making sure everything was in order. Maybe you can try that? Find out who is assigned to your area and contact them.

How do you check status online?

How did you find out who was assigned to your area? Since I'm out of state, that should be fun. I will ask in the online chat tonight. It would be nice to see if they can check things for me, since I'm worried about the status.

Apparently, you can check things here;

https://newman.uts.ohio-state.edu/admissions/appstat/Adm_AppStatus.cfm

If you don't mind me asking, what was your son's ACT? I'm qualified for the provost scholarship, and I'm not sure if those awards are guaranteed or come on a first come, first serve basis.

I had access to his email and I saw what was being sent by his high school college advisor. The admissions was emailing my son's school, and she was forwarding it on to the students. Maybe try the addmission page of the OSU website, you will probably get a faster answer who is assigned to you if you call rather than email.

he got a 32 ACT

SAT
Math 780
Reading 680
Writing 690

4.1 something GPA, his school will not give class rankings

I just went to the link you gave me:

provost scholarship I believe is Dec 1 application deadline

Yeah, I submitted everything on Nov. 30th. I had been considering OSU but couldn't afford the out of state fees. I received a letter on the 28th (!!) telling me about the programs I could apply for, so it was a rush. My application is still solid, but my scores aren't quite as good as your son's (at least Math - my weak spot!). Congrats again. I joined the live chat tonight and was told that it is normal for the application materials to take a week or so to show up online. I'm hoping for a quick turnaround like you had.
