So I applied for a paid research internship and it looked like I had a pretty great chance of getting it (during my second interview, he basically said that I unofficially got it). My last interview was 15 days ago and I was supposed to hear back Monday or Tuesday of this week (it's now Thursday). Now they were having problems with their email system a few weeks ago and I suppose that's how I will be contacted. But I can't help but feel anxious that I haven't heard back yet. How long should I wait before inquiring?

I would wait a week and do it this incoming Monday.

Thank you, I was so close to doing it today!

It wouldn’t be a big deal if you did it today. If you just say you’re checking in with them and don’t sound desperate, or send a ton of emails if they don’t immediately respond, it won’t be a big deal at all. Waiting a week is probably the slightly more right thing to do, but in all honesty they aren’t going to not give it to you because you emailed a couple days after they said they’d get back to you, especially this late in the semester.

Very true. I would just like to set up my schedule for the summer and I don’t want to register for summer classes until I know for sure that I got this internship. I would email him now but he works at a private high school so I’m pretty sure he’s gone home by now.

Personally I’ve called every three days or so. And in doing so has actually helped me get the internship. I have yet to have a bad experience doing this.

I sent an email today, “just checking in”. Hopefully I’ll get a reply tomorrow and hopefully it’s a good one! I’m really banking on this!
