How long should the common app essay be?

It says 250 words minimum.

Is 602 words too long?

Doesn’t it say 250-500 words?

I thought I remembered seeing that somewhere, but the prompt only says:

Please provide a statement (250 words minimum) that addresses your reasons for transferring and the objectives you hope to achieve.

Note: The Common Application essay should be the same for all colleges. Members that wish to review custom essay responses will request them on their Supplement form.

Your essay will appear on a separate sheet at the end of the application.
Upload your personal essay below:

To upload a document in response to this question, please click the ‘Upload Document’ button.
If your upload is successful, you will see a ‘View Document’ button and a ‘Delete Document’ button appear.

If I remember correctly, there used to be a 500 word limit on the application essay. Since then, they have removed such a limit but i heard that it’s optimum to write an essay under 600 words that best describes you through aspects and details Colleges can’t tell by looking at your SAT and GPA alone.

Is this from online? When I go to the CA website and download the Transfer application, it states this:

It appears that the online form is different than the downloadable form then. I think I’ll play it safe and pare down my essay to 500 words.

Thanks all.
