I'm the top 8% of my class, so I should be up for automatic admission. However, I keep hearing about this letter of intent of admission that's supposed to be sent out to auto admits, but I haven't received anything of that nature. It's been over three weeks since I applied, and I haven't heard anything... should I be concerned? How long should it take?

I believe UT is proceeding with caution this year on the admissions. In the past, the auto admits were told soon after applying, but so far no one has heard.

I am not sure what delaying telling the auto admits does, but you are not the only one in the same situation.

So what purpose does waiting to notify auto admits serve?

My son applied first week of August. He’s easily in the top 8 percent. They’ve said they have everything they need to make a decision. Admissions told my wife that they’ve always waited until Nov to let the auto admits know. However, my daughter is at UT, applied in late August 2010 and was auto admitted in late Sept. 2010.

What gives? State law requires them to admit the top 8 percent automatically. Does this have anything to do with uncertainty about the Fischer case and the possibility that they might have to admit all of the top 10 percent if the Fischer case goes south for UT? I can understand why they can’t notify quickly about a certain college within UT, but as our situation stands, we are considering applying elsewhere as a backup if we don’t hear something soon.

I’d like to hear from others who are in the same boat.

No worries, as far as we know, nobody has gotten an Intent to Admit letter.

We do not know for sure why UT does it differently this year. It might have something to do with the SC case.

I think they might send them in November.

Actually it only requires that 75% of admissions be through auto admit. They estimate that they will reach that limit around 8%. If they reach the limit at 6% then everyone in top 6% will admitted and then they will go to holistic review.

I also applied at the end of September, and when I check my application status, it says that it is still “in review”. Could anyone give me insight into my chances of being admitted?
I’m in the top 8.3% of my class (missed 8% by two ranks, ***), with an non-weighted GPA of around 3.6. I’ve taken ten AP courses, and I’m a member of NHS, NSHS, Mu Alpha Theta. I’ve also been in band all four years, earning various awards from that, as well as a leadership role, and I’ve been on the Varsity Tennis team four years. As far as my SAT is concerned, I only had a composite score of 1200 (however I’m awaiting results from my second SAT, if it comes before my admission decision). I also wrote two higher end essays, but as far as ethnicity, I’m just a whitey Do I have a realistic shot of getting into the University?

Don’t feel bad, no one has been admitted yet.

Sent my application in a week ago, but just mailed my transcripts on Friday.

I am in the top 5% and got no letter of intent, other than the invitation to the Honors Colloquium overnight stay and I couldn’t go to that because I didn’t have a ride.
