How long to live on campus

Hello all, I was just wondering how long people typically live on campus. Since UCLA guarantees on-campus housing for so long, I just thought it would be interesting to see how many years people usually stay.

I would say the average is 2-3.

Most students live on-campus for two years.

first year, almost everyone. second year, the majorty. 3rd year, minority. 4th year, very few.

Agreed with the above posters. Next year will be my third year and I will be living in the apartments, although this is only because all my friends are now moving off-campus. I would live in the dorms again in a heartbeat if people were staying, though.

I'll be a 4th year living on campus next year... Honestly the reason I'm doing it is because it's what my friends are doing.

Most freshmen are getting triples this year. What are most of you 2nd, 3rd, and 4th years getting - doubles/singles, or are some of you being forced into triples also (I hope not)?

We (2nd, 3rd, 4th yrs) actually get to pick our rooms, so what was mainly left over for the first years were the triples. It also depends on your sign-up times, but most will sign up for the doubles unless they have 2 other friends or want to pay less than they would if they had a doubles.

I had the final signup time for rooms... There were very very few doubles left open in the buildings I was looking at. There were still a ton of triples and a rather large number of singles open. I signed up for a double, but am now waiting to find out if I can upgrade to a single.

why do people move out to apts? why not just stay at the dorms?

sometimes apts are cheaper

*often cheaper + more space + more independence

yeah, but doesnt the food cost offset it?

People move to the apartments because they want to be more independent.

apartment + food can still be (and often is) less than the price of dorms. unless you're in a res hall triple with 11 cub plan or something, then an apartment might be slightly more expensive (but then you still get more room and stuff).
