After looking at this site, I’ve seen some people in CLA, CBS, and CSOM getting accepted as of late, some as quick as two weeks after applying. Has anyone gotten a decision from CSE yet? Personally, I applied in the first week of September and am pretty confident that I will get in; I’m from OOS but visited a few times, they gave me a fee waiver for no reason, national merit semifinalist, and all that. The application tracker has said it has received my application, SRAR, three letters of rec, and SAT score since September 10th, and it hasn’t changed at all. Given that I have a few friends who applied around the same time. the ones who applied to CLA heard back real quick, but no word for those who applied CSE. Do CSE applications take longer to get reviewed or something? My friends and I were just curious.
I applied to CSE August 7th and was accepted September 22nd.
@19rajus - not a lot of CSE acceptances yet so perhaps this upcoming will be your lucky weekend. Since you are SF you should be good for the Gold Scholarship, assuming you look to be on track for NMF. Hopefully you’ll also get some money to offset the OOS tuition premium.
Oh ok, that’s a bit longer than I would’ve expected. I guess I’ll wait another week or two.
admissions decisions also didn’t start until October technically, so I had to wait until then. I would guess you’ll find out in a week or 2
@JBStillFlying sorry to go a bit off topic here, but do decisions always come over the weekend? Fri/Sat?
A few years ago it seemed that CLA had to wait and CSE came out earliest. Perhaps now the national exposure from the Common Ap. and the increasing popularity of majors like CS and Engineering are creating more of a backlog than usual for CSE.
@CAmom01 at #5 - not sure. That was true for my son this year, but in previous years it’s been different. UMN has adjusted their admission deadlines over the past couple of years so that could be impacting decision timing, and I’m sure there are system tweaks every year that result in some variation of when the notices go out.
D19 got an email about scholarship questions on 10/15. Received the snail mail CSE congrats on 10/16. The portal still is not updated with the acceptance. She applied early Sept.
@peachActuary73 Congrats!. Wow, the whole process was backwards for you.
@peachActuary73 congrats - and LOL.
@CAmom01 @JBStillFlying I stand corrected. She never set up the tracker. She’s been looking at the application status site.
My in state student was accepted to CSE last week, submitted application on September 7. Was also notified about Honors College this week, no info about scholarships yet.
@Midwestrowmom The scholarship questions she received was a 1 minute check the boxes if it applies to you type form. I think it was a filter for some designated scholarships - like orphan, Native American, deceased parent??
I looked back at my daughters communication center from 3 years ago (shes a junior now) and she had also received the same scholarship email. She ultimately never received any scholarship money from the U so I wouldn’t get too excited about that one.
Sounds like CSE is giving out Honors invitations this week (and last). My D17 was invited to Carlson-Honors around this time two years ago so hoping more honors invites will be forthcoming soon.
@UMNMom The options were so specific, I feel like they were small alumni type awards. I don’t recall that she was able to check any boxes. I just didn’t want @Midwestrowmom to think there was scholarship stuff being awarded to some. My statement about scholarship questions earlier could have been misleading.
Private donors have specified certain uses of the funds so UMN passes that info along to any accepted student. These are NOT the university-wide scholarships available on the admissions page. In fact, not sure the information about those limited funds is even available w/o the link provided to the student directly, but could be wrong about that.
@19rajus We are OOS and my daughter got her CSE acceptance Sept 29 - and Honors about a week later. she’s a national merit semifinalist, and we are hopeful for scholarship opportunities. Good luck!
On my UMN application tracker, the day before I was admitted it changed to “All your application materials are submitted, an admissions decision will be posted on this site”… did that happen to anyone else?
