How long until a CSE decision?

@Henxnr I have heard others had their message delete the last line, but I haven’t heard yet of it stating" an admissions decision will be posted on this site". We didn’t find out what the messages were as we couldn’t get into the tracker before DD was admitted.

@CAmom01 Ah alright! Just curious for others out there. I have heard in the past the phrase was different before people were admitted.

@Henxnr It does get changed to a shorter version right before, that has been true so far from what others have shared. The “all students who submit complete…blah…blah…” is the part that I believe is deleted from it shortening the message.

@CAmom01 I figured that was the case. It’s a nice little indicator that you should see an admissions decision shortly after.

@Henxnr yes - that shortened message tends to indicate that a decision is forthcoming. I’m wondering if it changes at the same time that the decision hits the Comm. Ctr.

For CSE , I had posted first and second choice in College of science and engg and got the acceptance. However it does not state anywhere which major I have been accepted to. Sorry for the silly question but does it mean its automatically the first choice? How do I know which major I have been accepted into?

The major question on the application is there to help you select your college of interest. You are not actually admitted to a major, but to the college. As long as you meet the prereqs you should be able to declare any major offered by that college.

Thanks @JBStillFlying. I had opted CS as first choice and CE as second choice. And it specifically states College of science and engg. So I can choose between CS or CE?

@ppxyz123 as of this point - yes. You’ll want to understand the progression or pre-req requirements that must be satisfied (by sophomore year, usually) before you are eligible to declare either major. Admission to CSE does not guarantee eligibility to declare any particular major there. What it does do is give you head-of-the-line or even proprietary registration ability for your CSE-related courses, in order to keep you on track to graduate from the college in a timely fashion. There will be college-specific requirements common to all majors (usually some science), and then technical course and GPA requirements for each major. This link will get you started:

https://www.advising.cse.umn.edu/

Also, if the link doesn’t take you there already, you can go to the CSE website and click on your majors of interest to view proposed plans of study.

Congrats and good luck!

Thanks so much @JBStillFlying

I just got accepted to CSE this morning, exactly 3 weeks from when I applied.

They are getting faster at processing the applications.

OOS DS applied 10/27
Accepted to CSE today 11/3

They might have been slowed by high volume before the EA deadline. Hopefully they can now pick up the pace a bit!

My friend got in to CSE on November 4th and he had applied on October 21st

Does the acceptance letter mention CSE?

You are accepted to a specific college. Sometimes that’s not the first choice so it’s good to read the Tracker and/or acceptance letter carefully. The Comm. Ctr. Message will also let you know if admitted to alternate choice or first choice.
