Okay… I know this question is ridiculous but I’m kinda desprate so please help. How long will it take to self study algebra 2, precalc and calc bc? I want to take the ap calc bc exam this year but I only finished up to geometry. I was always good at math and I’m homeschooled so I have a lot of time on my hands.
Do you think that it will be possible for me to finish everything before May? Also I’m thinking on taking statistics too so yeah… but again, I have all the time I possibily can have. I’m literally willing to just study math for like more than 10 hours a day so can anyone please tell me if it’s possible or not?
It really comes down to your determination and aptitude. You mentioned that you do like math and happen to be pretty good at it, so that’s always helpful. However, there are three and a half months until the end of May (assuming the Calc BC test is around that date), it might not be wise to rush through, simply because you might end up with knowledge gaps that will not serve you well in the future.
I might be wrong about your current math abilities, and you might be amazing at picking up new material really quickly, so I advise you to give it a shot and jump in, try to cover material as thoroughly as you can while still doing it at your own pace. Don’t think of doing the AP test as your goal, but rather think of doing the best you can. You’ll surprise yourself (hopefull pleasantly) and might end up sitting for the AP exam in May.
Good luck!
You want to do three years of material in three months???
I don’t think it is possible. Why do you need to take AP BC this spring?
Flat out I don’t believe you can. You can prove me wrong if you want but I think it would be foolish to try. Think of it in terms of math:
45 minutes per section of math
200 days of school a year
3.5 years worth of material (you need to learn calc A as well)
=525 hours flat of instruction, not even including hw and studying
11 weeks till the AP test (early may)
77 days including weekends
=7 hours per day including weekends,
So I guess it’s technically possible. (This is a very rough estimate BTW I’m just giving a estimate of how much material you need to cover each day). Is this much studying worth one test? Your call.
Considering how there r only a few months until May, I am not sure you can master Calculus BC, which is equivalent to calculus two. You know, there is Calc AB test which is calculus one. Now, if you are actually going to try to study…you should probably just start studying the calculus book and do some problems in each section of the book and understand every step before continuing. If you run into some trig identities or exponent variable math that you cant do then look it up (that would b algebra and precalc stuff)
Probably not a realistic plan. What year of high school are you in?
@izz999 it’s probably doable, but it would take an insane amount of effort unless you can really master the concepts. So unless you have a strong aptitude for math, I wouldn’t recommend self-studying all the way up to Calculus BC before May. Even if you do, I especially don’t recommend self-studying for the purpose of “taking the AP Calc BC exam.” That will very likely bite you back in the future.
I was a USAMO qualifier and did several state- and national-level math contests in high school, and I don’t think I would have been capable of learning all that material in 3 months.
